AACTA Audience Choice Awards: Vote for your favorite TV star
Exclusive: News Corp Australia readers will have the chance to vote for their TV and movie favorites of the decade, as part of new “People’s Choice” awards at this year’s AACTA, presented by Foxtel.
As part of the industry’s 10th anniversary celebrations, the public can now vote in an exclusive poll – launched today – across the drama, reality, sports, comedy and news categories.
With COVID restrictions imposing changes on the Dec. 2 show, AACTA chief executive Damian Trewhella said audience interaction was “the perfect initiative to engage with those who watch in order that they can have a say in what they think have been the highlights of the past 10 years. “
Working with limited capacity for VIP guests at this year’s Sydney ceremony, the publicly voted awards will be in addition to the peer-voted awards that will be announced in the evening.
The Audience Choice categories recognize the rise and rise of reality TV, the strength of Australian comedy and drama, and the international success of our local stars.
“Our local stars have prolific careers and entertain billions across the globe,” said Mr Trewhella, adding “and” our local screen industry is growing more and more with Australian stories, across multiple genres, entertaining and informing millions of people every week. “
Home And Away starlet Sam Frost, who is nominated as TV Contestant of the Decade, said she was “moved” to embark on a genre that has exploded over the years.
“Never in a million years could I have imagined my life unfolding the way it did,” said the former Bachelor and Bachelorette star.

“I have been blessed and grateful for everything that has happened in my career. Whether it’s the show crews or the people who have been my mentors, it’s pretty amazing and surreal enough that this is my life.
Before embarking on the dating franchise of 10, Frost admits she wasn’t a fan of reality TV.
“I guess I watched Big Brother and Idol back then, but the reality was so new and not that great. It’s definitely changed and transformed [my life] over the years.”
Co-star Georgie Parker, herself marking 10 years as the beloved character Roo on Seven, the AACTA-nominated prime-time drama, said Frost seized the show’s opportunity and had worked solidly in his art. “She has gained enormous confidence. because she works so hard. She takes this very seriously and has done a great job. I really respect and admire her and she’s a lot of fun too.
Parker said the long-running soap opera remains a staple of Australian storytelling, here and abroad.
“I did a series of interviews in the UK this week and they are so invested in the series and the characters, it’s quite unusual. Partly I think it’s the production values and how it looks, so I think the Australian landscape should take a lot of credit. “
A shortlist of the AACTA ‘People’s Choice’ awards will be revealed on November 29, while highlights from the gala ceremonies will air on December 7.
