Acura MDX Type S will be a very red 355-HP AWD power wagon

Acura did the weird thing of revealing what we wanted to believe to be a concept car, but it’s actually a nearly production-ready version of the next-generation MDX 3-row crossover. With the final year of the RLX luxury sedan, MDX will become Acura’s flagship and promise to focus on the brand’s hot, new and sporty approach.

According to Acura press material, the 4th generation MDX is mounted on a “all-new light truck platform” that is sophisticated for rigidity, cabin quietness and comfort. This new structure will be the basis for the imminent, first-ever Type S brand MDX crossover scheduled for next summer.

This “concept” MDX is mounted on 21-inch wheels, about 3 inches longer than the current model to be replaced. Inside, there is a 12.3-inch driver display and a 12.3-inch display in the center of the dashboard. They are linked to Acura’s funky touchpad interface.

Acura claims that its “stiffest SUV body ever” will be fitted to the new double wishbone front suspension for improved handling performance. The MDX in production will be available with Acura’s 4th generation SH-AWD (Super Handling All Wheel Drive) technology and will take advantage of all its rigidity. SH-AWD has been confirmed to be the standard for the upcoming Type S, and I think it’s where the teased ivory-painted Brembo brake calipers also go.

The MDX Type S is also promised to be “the most powerful engine ever offered on an Acura SUV” with a new turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that produces 265kW and 218Nm of torque. The only other power available on the standard MDX is the 3.5-liter V6 with a weird VTEC that is expected to be somewhere around the current generation MDX’s 290HP and 121kg-ft torque. Both models feature a Georgia-assembled 10-speed automatic transmission, with the engine, body, and everything else assembled in Ohio using the NSX.

I’m not going to dare to complain about the 265kW Type S crossover from Acura. That’s nice, and I want to drive it. That said, I hope Acura saves room for its performance plans, or at least the MDX lineup, for a hybrid model with some of its new electricity that kids are all excited about. is.
