Assad visits northern Syria after a wildfire

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad visited a province in northern Latakia on October 13 to investigate post-wildfire damage in the area and met locals, Syrian state media reported. The United Nations reported that up to 140,000 people were “affected by the destruction and damage of their homes and property” in multiple fires in Latakia, Tartus and Homs. The United Nations said through ReliefWeb that at least three people had died in Latakia. A video released by the President of Syria shows Assad asking residents about their response to the fire and the damage to their area. One man told Assad that he needed a water hose so that residents could respond to the fire as soon as possible.Credit: President of Syria via Storyful
