‘What we want to see is calmness’, defense minister says on China’s military buildup

Asked if he was concerned about the looming competence gap, he said:
We are fully aware of the military buildup in which China is involved..and it is of great concern..it is certainly one of the key facts in shaping the strategic landscape for Australia. It’s one.
However, he said:
What we want is calmness, and what underpins our position is the view that we do not want unilateral changes to the status quo on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
