New program to help small businesses improve cybersecurity

The Australian Small Business Association Council (COSBOA) has launched a new initiative to protect small businesses from cyber threats and fraud that cost the economy an estimated $29 billion annually.

COSBOA’s Cyber Wardens program is designed by small businesses for small businesses through a free, easy-to-use, certified e-learning platform. .

The program also aims to become Australia’s first cybersafety workplace certification or micro-credential for the SME sector. We have already secured strategic partnerships with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) and Telstra in the implementation of this programme.

Alexi Boyd, CEO of COSBOA, said the Cyber Wardens program is aimed at small business owners who feel helpless in the digital safe space due to limited resources, time and technical expertise. He said he wanted to give him power.

“We believe having Cyber Warden on the team gives small business owners confidence that their business and customers are protected,” said Boyd. “Australia’s innovative small business owners are used to wearing different hats, but they can’t add another task to their to-do list or ‘too hard’ list. By targeting employees as well as owners, the Cyber Wardens program equips Australian SME employees with the mindset, skill sets, and skills to engage more easily and securely in our increasingly digital world. Provides a toolset.

“With the support of Telstra and CBA, we are looking forward to more corporate partners and will be able to provide a free, simple, and accessible resource to the small business community,” added Boyd. “We want to foster a culture of self-determination and understanding in cybersecurity. [with] No IT degree, great expertise and cloud magic required. “

Recent data from the Australian Cyber Security Center (ACSC) shows that 43% of all cybercrime in Australia is directed at small businesses, costing small business owners an average of around $9,000 in losses in FY21. I’m here. Mike Vacy-Lyle, CBA’s Business Group Executive for His Banking, said it’s important that the small business sector has the skills needed to stay safe online.

“It can be difficult to understand a topic as complex as cybersecurity, and we are always looking for ways to better support small businesses in this area,” said Vacy-Lyle. . “We are excited to launch the Cyber Warden Pilot Program to demystify cyber safety, instill a cyber mindset, and help small businesses identify and manage cyber threats. ”

The Cyber Wardens pilot program, which aims to upskill 2.3 million SMEs and their employees to become the forefront of cybersecurity in Australia, will be rolled out in the coming months. .
