Cook could not confirm the age or nationality of the man, but said the ship had been at sea for about 16 days and arrived from Shanghai via Manila.
He said the ship was anchored in Port Hedland on Friday night.
Cook said no port crew had boarded the Vega Dream and health officials had not yet decided if the crew needed to be inspected.
He said there were no reports of other crew members feeling sick, and if so, the ship should depart this afternoon without any further problems.
