Russian military plane crashes into residential building in Yeysk city, Russia

A supersonic medium-range fighter-bomber crashed into a house in the Russian city of Yeysk.

At least two people were killed and 15 injured.

A military jet engine caught fire during takeoff, causing the crash, according to Russian state media.

The Russian Defense Ministry said the Sukhoi Su-34 was on a training mission and the pilot successfully ejected before the crash.

Authorities are still assessing how many casualties were caused by the crash that caused extensive fires in the building and surrounding areas.

At least five floors of the skyscraper were damaged, and regional and local firefighters are battling the blaze.

Footage shows the plane exploding on board as it heads towards the building. A huge fireball then engulfed the apartment.

“On October 17, 2022, a Su-34 aircraft crashed while climbing to conduct a training flight from a military airfield in the Southern Military District,” the ministry said in a statement to the RIA.

“Ejected pilots report that the cause of the plane crash was the ignition of one of the engines during takeoff.

“Airplane fuel caught fire at the Su-34 crash site in the courtyard of a residential area.”

According to the Kremlin, President Vladimir Putin was informed of the crash and ordered all necessary assistance to be provided to the victims.

Yeysk is located near the Russian-occupied territories in southern Ukraine, near the Asov Sea.
