Commonwealth Games 2022: England disqualified from 400m relay, stripped of gold medal for violation

England were stripped of gold in the 4x400m relay at High Drama on Monday morning (AEST).

England looked to have pulled off one of the headline moments of the entire Commonwealth game when Jesse Knight held off Canadian fast-starter Keira Constantine in the final straight and crossed the line just 0.01 seconds early.

Fans inside Alexander Stadium went berserk when a replay showed Knight had done just enough to take the famous victory. Or so they thought.

As the final event of the final day of athletics across the Olympics, it was enough to leave a sour taste in the mouths of British fans, many of whom had left the stadium before the team’s disqualification was announced. .

The England team was not made aware of the news until after completing their winning lap.

But there is no doubt that the officials made the right decision. It was announced that England had committed an offense at the end of the first leg during the first baton exchange.

Replays showed British runner Jody Williams drifting to the inside lane (lane 2) as he received the baton and positioned himself to take off from the position.

England immediately appealed, but 20 minutes later it was announced that the appeal had been dismissed.

As a result of the disqualification, Canada was promoted to gold, Jamaica to silver and Scotland to bronze.

Just capped off an incredible night on the track. Peter Boll wins silver in men’s 800m.

Scotland’s Laura Muir rounded out her Commonwealth Games campaign with a gold medal in the 1500m.

Her 29-year-old teammate, 10,000m champion Eilish McColgan, failed to pull off a memorable double, finishing second to Kenya’s impressive world silver medalist Beatrice Chebet in the 5,000m.

Muir, who won bronze in the 800 m on Sunday (AEST), kicked for glory in front of the bell and ran a fairly calm field.

The Olympic silver medalist was happy that she didn’t medal in 2014 and missed the 2018 Olympics due to veterinary exams.

“You will learn from it and your time will come.

“It sounds cheesy, but it’s true. It’s been haunting me for eight years in the Commonwealth, so this means a lot.”

India also put on an excellent track and field event – Eldhose Paul won the first-ever gold medal in the men’s triple jump early on Sunday – but bitter rival Pakistan also had a taste of the glory.

With a strap on his right arm, Arshad Nadeem became the first Asian gold medalist in the javelin throw with a new tournament record of 90.18 meters.

Nigeria’s Ese Blume jumps over 7.00 m to win the women’s long jump competition. Despite the fierce competition, there was still emotional room between rivals.

recently crowned World champion Kelsey Lee Barber has previously won the women’s javelin Canada’s Evan Dunphy won the men’s 10,000 steps, throwing 64.43 m.

Trinidad and Tobago win the men’s 4x400m relay.
