Georgia Baker won gold and fellow Australian Sarah Roy won bronze..

Baker described the win as a “real team effort” for the six-man Australian team, with Baker winning the final sprint alongside 23 other riders.

This included compatriot Roy in third and England time trial silver medalist Anna Henderson in 24th.

She was highly critical of Australian tactics.

“It was a silly race. The Australians had a really boring race plan,” said Henderson.

“I thought, ‘You’re strong enough to win races, you can break out and win sprints,’ so why not race? That.”

“The Australians just played it really boring and didn’t really show it.”

The win adds to Baker’s gold medals in the points race and team pursuit from Birmingham Velodrome.

In the men’s race, Lucas Prapp was Australia’s best finisher, sixth after time trial gold medalist Rohan Dennis withdrew from the race due to illness.
