Man charged with assaulting Washington state police

A man charged with assaulting a police officer who reportedly broke his jaw has emerged from his hospital bed.

Neil Graham Cahill, 52, was charged with assaulting a police officer outside the seawall at Hillarys Boat Harbor in Perth on Saturday night.

“A police officer, who was on duty at the time and was accompanying another man, approached and allegedly assaulted the 52-year-old man at approximately 8:50 p.m.,” police said in a statement on Sunday.

“A 44-year-old male police officer suffered head injuries and was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment.”

Hocking’s Cahill briefly met with the Perth Magistrate’s Court on Sunday via voice link.

He did not apply for bail and the matter has been postponed until Tuesday.
