Dead 9-month-old Doonside had Covid

A 9-month-old child found unresponsive by paramedics this week tested positive for Covid-19, a new report suggests.

Emergency services were called to a home in the Doonside suburb of Sydney shortly after 10am on Monday.

Paramedics found the child unresponsive and treated her at the scene, but were unable to revive her.

Seven News reported Wednesday that both the child and her parents had tested positive for Covid at the time she was found.

Investigators wore protective gear to prevent the spread of the virus.

New South Wales Police have not confirmed whether the child has Covid, and a spokesperson said it was a matter for the coroner.

“Officers at Blacktown Police Area Command have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a child,” New South Wales Police said in a statement.

Forensic detectives are working to determine the cause of death.

The parents are under police investigation, but police have not released any charges.
