Here’s a portion of Wiebush’s interview with ABC’s Michael Rowland: Edited for length and clarity.

Roland: In Echuca, the last indication you gave a day or so ago was the result of rising water levels that could affect up to 2,000 facilities. Any updates on that?

Weebush: Yeah, that’s what we understand from flood analysts at the moment, that between 1,000 and 2,000 properties experience some degree of flooding. However, a small number of them can seep onto the floor.

Roland: Regarding its mitigation work… In Echuca, about 2.5km of embankment has been built which would ideally save much of the city, but sadly there is property on the other side of the embankment that is unprotected. is pretty frustrating. what do you say to them

Weebush: Unfortunately, with all these events, I think there is a scenario where water pressure will be put on some communities. And whether it’s Echuca or it’s the Lowlands of Loddon towards Kerrang there are unfortunately some areas that we can’t mitigate as we saw in and around Rochester on Campaspe Island on the way to Echuca These floods reaching record levels.

Roland: Let’s finish with Kerrang. How likely is it that the people of Kerrang will quarantine him for a week, possibly up to two weeks, as feared?

Weebush: Look, it’s so likely that there are emergency alerts out encouraging people to consider moving to higher ground, especially if they can’t keep their property within the walls of Kerrang’s embankment. The reason is. 1 week or more. There is no evacuation message at this time, but we expect that to happen and urge people to really consider taking the chance to move out of Kerrang while the opportunity still exists. I am urging you to to higher ground.
