Giorgia Meloni Claims Victory in Italian General Election

In the early hours of Monday, September 26, Giorgia Meloni of Italy declared victory in the Italian general election. Exit polls showed that her right-wing party, the Italian Brothers, and her coalition partner had received enough votes to form a government, Italy’s ANSA news agency reported late Sunday. Meloni told his supporters that while there was still a vote left, it was clear that the Italians had chosen “a centre-right government led by the Italian brothers”. She understood the responsibility placed upon her, and said her government “won’t betray us because we haven’t.” If we do, we will do it for everyone, uniting people by valuing what unites rather than what divides,” she said. Meloni will make history as Italy’s first female prime minister. Credit: Giorgia Meloni via Storyful
