Hockey looses in gold medal match against England at Commonwealth Games after controversial penalty shootout

Hockey Ruth forward Rosie Malone suspects she is India’s biggest opponent right now after Hockey Ruth’s penalties win over India in the women’s hockey semifinals at the Commonwealth Games.

It’s not that it bothers her.

After the team finished 1-1 at full-time, Malone was the first penalty taker in a 1–1 win.

She had no control over her attempts and failed for the first time in her international career.

However, there was an unexpected let-off when she was called back to retake her shot as the eight-second countdown on the scoreboard had not started.

“I was just thanking the universe for giving me a second chance,” Malone said.

“I knew that all of India would hate me if I participated. But I was trying to think about my team and the final.

“I told myself that if I had a second chance, I wouldn’t miss it.”

Malone’s redo success set the tone for the rest of the Australians, who secured an easy 3–0 shootout win.
