‘I don’t want the government to set wages’: Michaela Cash

Shadow Employment Minister Michaela Cash has said she supports wage increases for elderly care workers, but that decision must be made without interference by an independent Fair Labor Commission.

On Monday, the Albanian Labor government submitted a formal submission to the Fair Labor Commission (FWC).

Cash said “of course” the coalition would support higher wages in aged care, but insisted that the decision should be made without the FWC interfering.

“We don’t want the government to set wages in this country,” she told Sky News Australia.

“That’s why an independent Fair Work Commission fully analyzes evidence from all parties and makes an appropriate decision.”
