New York: They made him at night, in the quiet hours after the bakery closed. Mother and daughter worked together, mixing ingredients such as flour, water and sugar to form the creations.

Each feature was sculpted and placed in the oven to bake, slowly he began to emerge.First the basic outlines of his body were drawn, then the details. An anguished expression, lips twisted in pain, hands desperately reaching out for him.

Finally, after a month of work, he was ready. Lovingly forged, he’s a 1.8-meter carbonite-frozen, entirely pan-made reproduction of Han Solo. The duo behind the creation, Hannah Lee Purban and her mother, Katherine Purban, called him “Pan Solo.”

On Sunday, the sculpture was displayed outside the One House Bakery store in Benicia, Calif., next to a seasonal gourd and a chalkboard that read, “Our hero Pan Solo is trapped.” Levainite by the evil Java the Hut.

Both customers and passers-by noticed it.

“People are very interested in it. When you see people sniffing and poking, they’re like, ‘What’s going on?'” “They don’t believe it’s made of dough,” said Hannerie Purban, owner and head baker.

But yes. Young Pervan, a bakery co-owner, and her mother made pansolo from yeast-free dead dough. Pervan learned how to make the dough at his Wheat Stalk baking conference a few years ago and started using it to bake Halloween decorations.

Then she and her mother, both self-professed sci-fi geeks, set their sights higher.
