Italian woman arrested in Vatican financial scandal investigation
Arrested: Cecilia Marogna.
Recently, Italian media conducted an interview saying that Marogna received € 500,000 ($ 587,350) from Bechiu to carry out “parallel diplomacy” to help missionaries in conflict zones.
She denied cheating in an interview.
Her intended work at the Vatican State Department, where Bechiu dominated until 2018, was previously unknown.
Becciu’s attorney Fabio Viglione said the Cardinal knew Marogna, but his deal with her was “only on institutional issues.”
Marogna, who likes Becciu from Sardinia, says the money she allegedly received from Becciu went through a company she started in Slovenia.
