Jackie O Henderson says Australia Day date should be changed

Jackie O. Henderson has joined calls to change the date of Australia Day, saying she supports the alternative of 26 January.

“I want to celebrate this country without shame,” Henderson told co-host Kyle Sandilands.

“I love this country and I’m really patriotic, so I want to be able to celebrate Australia,” Henderson said.

“I’m happy to change the date because I want to do it in a non-embarrassing way.”

Debate over whether to hold a public holiday to commemorate the arrival of Sir Arthur Phillip and the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove on 26 January has raged for years.

Most of the Indigenous communities consider January 26th to be the start date of the genocide.

Those who see the day as ‘Aggression Day’ take to the streets to protest, calling for the date to be changed or to abolish Australia Day altogether, while others wear the Australian flag. expected to celebrate.

“Changing the date will not hurt you personally, but not changing the date will hurt many people,” Henderson continued.

Companies have responded to calls to change the dates by allowing workers to work and swapping holidays for holidays of their choice.

Employees of Telstra, Channel 10, Woolworths, BHP, Deloitte and KPMG are among those who have access to the ‘Swap the Date’ scheme.
