Boxing 2022: Devin Haney defeats ‘Warrior’ George Kambosos Jr. in brutal rematch, results, scorecards, updates, blood of Chernekha Johnson

George Kambosos Jr. put up a brave fight but was again defeated by Devin Haney in Sunday’s rematch in Melbourne.

Haney claimed victory by unanimous decision (119-109, 118-110, 118-110), defending the unified lightweight title and cementing his position at the top of world boxing.

Kambosos fired and kept Haney guessing in the first round by constantly changing between orthodox and southpaw stances.

Kambosos had no plan B and his corner prompted him to “stop switching” and change his approach by getting closer to Haney.

“Whether you want to win this match or not,” Camposos said, to which the Australian replied, “Yes, I will.”

“Well what are you doing,” his corner countered.

However, the Americans quickly got used to the unusual tactics and won the remaining rounds with a dominant performance.

“I didn’t expect him to switch, but I was able to pick up his timing and angles so easily that I started picking more shots,” Haney said after the game.

Haney was effective with a right jab, knocking Kambosos down in the closing stages.

Both fighters were bleeding in later rounds, with Kambosos leaking blood from his face and suffering a severe cut to his head.

Kambosos can hold his head high after putting in a gutsy performance far superior to what he showed in his first match in June.

“He’s a warrior. Hats off to George Kambosos,” Haney said.

After falling short against rising stars in the lightweight division twice, Kambosos must go back to the drawing board and consider what’s next for his boxing career.

Kambosos vs Haney Round to Round Update:

Round 1: The aggressive Kambosos is switching between orthodox and southpaw stances, a tactic that seems to confuse Haney.

Round 2: Haney landed a large right hand from Haney before going into battle.

Jeff Fenech said at the main event:

Round 3: Kambosos land a few blows, but it all goes haney as he lands countless right hands. Haney looks above class and it’s hard to see how an Australian would earn this.

Round 4: Kambosos hits Haney with a strong left hand late in the round. He needs more moments like that.

Round 5: A fairly even round, but Kambosos missed a good open look with his left jab. Kambosos needs a knockout to win.

Round 6: Kambosos continues to eat his right hand from Haney and begins to swell under his eyes.

Round 7: Another round to Haney who landed a left jab. Kambosos’ corner gave it to him and told him to stop switching stances and enter a closer brawl.

Round 8: Kambosos unleashes a powerful body shot. Both fighters are bleeding after an accidental head clash. The Australian is lifting and fighting better than his first match, but this is Haney’s loss.

Round 9: Kambosos was shaken as both fighters landed strong right hands, bleeding from their faces and heads.

“This is going to be a bloody battle in Melbourne,” said Ben Damon of Main Event.

Round 10: Kambosos has blood all over and is getting back on his feet, but hangs bravely for now.

round eleven: Kambosos manages to get back on his feet and fires a few shots in the jaw.

Massacre on the undercard

A match on the undercard of the George Kambosos vs. Devin Haney rematch was called off when the fighters began bleeding profusely in a horrific scene.

Chernekha Johnson was defending his IBF super bantamweight world title against Susie Ramadan in Melbourne on Sunday when the pair accidentally bumped their heads in the second round.

A deep cut quickly opened over Johnson’s left eye and blood began to flow from the wound, covering her in blood and affecting her vision.

Main Event Commentator Ben Damon said:

“It’s in a bad place and it’s bleeding profusely. It’s visible and this could be a real problem for the continuation of this fight. It’s a deep wound. It can put an end to fighting.

“I’m not sure Chernekha Johnson would like it if he could catch more when he’s essentially fighting with one eye. Bloody during Ramadan too.”

“She’s covered in blood. It’s running down her face and there’s no way she can see through those eyes.

The cut was too big for Johnson’s corner to fix between rounds, and viewers thought the right decision was to stop the fight.

Code Sports’ Brendan Bradford tweeted: You can’t make someone fight with a cut like that. Ridiculous. “

However, the referee and the ringside doctor consulted Johnson multiple times and surprisingly allowed the fight to continue.

Australian boxing legend Jeff Fennek said: That’s a bad cut.

“I can’t believe they let go first. It’s a big cut. You can’t control the bleeding.”

Paul Kent added:

Ramadan was punished for a boxing offense late in the fight and Johnson was able to keep his distance, claiming victory by unanimous decision to retain the belt.

In an intense post-fight interview in the ring, Ramadan accused opponent Johnson of taking steroids.

“I wish I had another chance, but I think these girls are probably too big for my weight class. Hopefully, she’s been told she’ll be tested too, so please take the test.” Ramadan said.

“I don’t know what to say,” Kent said of Ramadan’s comments.

“I never saw it happen…it was amazing.

“She seemed to think she could still win towards the end of the fight. Two points were deducted for her punching illegally, and the knockdown cost her.” I don’t understand how she thought she had a chance of winning.”

Early in the qualifying card, David Nyika defeated Titi Motusaga with a brutal knockout punch in the second round.
