Julie Bishop: Ex-foreign minister faints in Balmain revenge dress
Former foreign minister-turned-mining adviser and fashion icon Julie Bishop has made another bold statement in her post-political life.
Ms Bishop attends Australian department store David Jones’ first runway show in four years to unveil her latest Spring/Summer 2022 collection.
She turned heads on Wednesday night’s red carpet in a $3,750 metallic jacquard long sleeve mini dress designed by French luxury fashion house Balmain.
The former politician wore black stockings and simple black pumps, completing the head-to-toe black look with a clutch adorned with silver chain detail.
Bishop received a string of positive comments after posting a photo of herself on her Instagram account.
“You stunner,” writes Pip Edwards of Australian activewear brand PE Nation.
“Va va va Voom!!” commented Sunrise Entertainment reporter Nelson Aspen.
One Instagram user compared Bishop’s look to that of the late Princess Diana’s infamous “Revenge” dress.
“Like Diana’s revenge dress?”
The skin-tight mini black number certainly resembled Christina Stamborian’s cocktail dress worn by British princesses.
That’s even more fitting given Ms. Bishops’ very public split with longtime boyfriend David Panton, who reportedly ended an eight-year relationship in July.
“I’m very busy,” Bishop told Confidential about her new single life.

Just this month, Bishop hosted a Q&A with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, attended by university students across Australia.
Bishop also showed a return to her iconic short-cropped blonde look after months of growing out her hair after politics.

Bishop told Confidential that he rushed to the salon hours before the event.
“This is a post-Covid recovery haircut,” Bishop said.
“After going into lockdown, I grew my hair out and it was so much easier, but it feels so good to be able to meet Scott Sloan, who I have so much respect for, and he cut my hair for me. is. “
Ms. Bishop added indie artist Vera Blue, model Natalie Lawther, TV host Erin Holland, activewear entrepreneur Pip Edwards and fashion designer Bianca Spender to the flagship guest list.
