After all, much more is possible than most of us ever believed possible, thanks to playwright Rob Seltzer’s rich imagination in comedy. Importance of being Jewishpremiered at Elwood’s Phoenix Theater earlier this month after being postponed twice due to COVID-19 lockdowns.
All the action takes place at the home of Melbourne couple Ray and Roche, where Joe Tigel and Natalie Shostak play the biggest roles in the production.
Along with their daughter Tara (Romi Friedman), they welcome new Makatonyms from Israel, Kitty (Amelia Frid) and Ilan (Raul Salter), and their son Leo (Mikki Parthi), who is working in Melbourne.
Ray and Roche are non-denominational, serving Aussie BBQ for the occasion and cooking kosher steaks to impress visitors.
Ray and Roche invite hundreds of guests to their wedding and are determined to make it a memorable occasion.
Ray has had his share of domestic drama over the years, but has always handled them well, especially when Roche and Tara are involved.
When Ray and Kitty first meet over lunch, when everyone else has left the room, fortunately, Ray is shocked to recognize Kitty as the girl he dated in college.
Kitty wants to share this news with everyone at lunch, but Ray hits the panic button and decides to keep their past a secret.
It marks the beginning of a series of drama and plot twists, with rapid-fire one-liners and site gags that keep you laughing.
