Man dies in Malaita Wall rappelling accident

A man in his 20s died Friday morning after falling while rappelling at a popular location in the Blue Mountains. Paramedics are currently working to retrieve his body from Katoomba’s Cliff.

Emergency services were called to the Malaita Wall rappelling point around 8 a.m. after a group of men collapsed while rappelling.

A witness provided medical assistance before paramedics arrived, but he died at the scene.

He has not yet been officially identified.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

One Blue Mountains Adventure website describes it as a five-pitch trip abseiling down the Malaita Wall to Jamison Valley for views of the Three Sisters, and “will get your heart pounding.” I’m here.

Another adventure website describes the abseil as ‘suitable for beginners who are comfortable at high altitudes’.
