Man killed by Michigan State Police after firing gun at police helicopter

A 33-year-old man was shot dead by Detroit authorities on the night of Tuesday, Jan. 24, after aiming a green laser and firing into a police helicopter, according to the Michigan State Police (MSP). This footage from a helicopter released by MSP on Wednesday shows the suspect aiming the helicopter from his 12857 Terry Street home, a few blocks north of his I-96. . Initially, the suspect aimed a laser at the helicopter from his second-floor window in the house. He then leaves the house and walks out into the backyard where he appears to fire three shots from a long rifle into a helicopter. Police said a helicopter crew reported the suspect’s whereabouts and officers responded on foot. “The suspect came out of the house and started shooting, and the police started shooting,” the suspect was fatally injured, MSP said. Police said the suspect was staying at an abandoned house on Terry Street and that “five guns were recovered from the house.” A motive for the shooting has not been determined, according to MSP.The two officers involved were on leave pending an investigation into the incident, police added.
