Flood levels soar in Victoria, threatening homes

Flooding continued to surge in parts of Victoria, Australia on October 17 after days of heavy rain. This footage, shot by Michael Rush, shows a flooded residential area in the Victorian town of Moorupuna. The Victorian Emergency Service issued emergency alerts for the Goulburn River in Muroopuna and Shepperton, urging residents to “evacuate to the highest possible ground” as flooding made evacuation impossible. The Goulburn River hit a high of 12.06 meters (39.5 feet) on Monday morning, according to the Bureau of Meteorology. Victorian Prime Minister Daniel Andrews said at a press conference that 359 roads remain closed across the state and about 1,860 establishments in Moorupuna are without power.Credit: Michael Lash via Storyful
