Pizza Box campaign to discourage meth use

State governments are rolling out new advertising campaigns that highlight the long-term effects of minimizing methamphetamine use. The ads are targeted at young people and run across social media, online gaming platforms and pizza boxes.

Entitled ‘Don’t Let Meth Take Hold’, the $100,000 campaign is based on research by Gabrielle Todd, Associate Professor at the University of South Australia. Gabrielle Todd found that stimulants may increase the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease and cause long-term changes in exercise. .

Studies have shown that these changes can occur after as little as five uses of stimulants.

“Using methamphetamine, even just a few times, can have long-lasting effects on the body, and it’s important to raise awareness about this in the community,” said Todd.

“Parts of the brain involved in exercise are particularly vulnerable to the toxic effects of methamphetamine.

“The damage caused by methamphetamine causes movement disorders and increases the risk of developing movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease.”

The state government says it will print 20,000 ads on the inside of pizza boxes sold at independent stores highlighting the long-term effects of minimizing stimulant use.

The youth-targeted ads will also be featured on social media, online gaming platforms, pubs, clubs and restaurants, according to the state government.

Health Secretary Chris Pickton said: “This campaign highlights just how dangerous methamphetamine can be. Even if it’s just a few times, it’s been a long time since someone stopped using it.” rice field.

“Our government is determined to reduce the devastating control this insidious drug has on its users, their families and the wider community.

“These messages resonate and help strengthen our commitment to improving user rehabilitation and supporting loved ones, including opening up more drug and alcohol beds.”

The Hospital Research Foundation is funding a $100,000 advertising campaign. This promotion is carried out in partnership with Drug and Alcohol Services SA and UniSA.
