Over 500 dead in Pakistan floods

Flash floods caused by unusually heavy monsoon rains have killed at least 549 people in Pakistan over the past month and affected remote communities in the worst-hit southwestern Balochistan province, government agencies said. said.

Excluding fatalities, the floods have damaged more than 46,200 homes, the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) said Friday.

Last month was the wettest in 30 years, with 133% more precipitation than the 30-year average, according to the NDMA.

Balochistan, which borders Iran and Afghanistan, has had 305% more rain than the annual average, the disaster agency said.
