Police Minister Joe Sakachi said the “Prime Minister’s Task Force” on police resources held its first meeting on Monday, ahead of more regular meetings throughout the year.
The 12-member task force includes Police Commissioner Grant Stevens, three police association leaders, Prime Minister and Cabinet Chief Executive Damien Walker, and Public Sector Employment Commissioner Elma Lanier. Consists of 5 senior SA police officers.
The group plans to submit recommendations to the Cabinet before the end of the year on the future of South Australia’s police resources.
Sakachi, who is also on the task force, said the first meeting was “incredibly productive.”
“The state government welcomes the opportunity to have fruitful and constructive discussions with SAPOL and PASA about the needs of the police,” he said in a statement.
“The task force reiterates the strong and continued support of the Malinaukas government to the hardworking police and security personnel who are dedicated to keeping us safe.”
As part of its deliberations, the task force considers factors such as crime rates, police demand, recruitment policies, population and census data, and metropolitan and regional expansion.
