Qld shooting: 3 dead confirmed in rural shooting in Bogie, Whitsundays

Three people have been confirmed dead in a shooting in rural North Queensland and the gunman is still on the run.

The bodies of the three victims were found on the grounds of Shannonvale Road in the remote town of Bogie where the shooting is believed to have taken place.

report from home delivery It suggests the incident was related to a property dispute.

At 8:54 am on Thursday, emergency personnel were called to the facility in Bogie, a small outback mining town in the Whitsundays near Collinsville.

Mackay District Superintendent Tom Armitt said police were in the “very early stages” of an investigation, but confirmed the shooter was still at large.

“We believe the person who shot them may still be in the area, so we are conducting our own search at this time,” he said.

Police said they could not confirm a motive for the shooting, but the three dead victims are believed to be family members of a fourth man in his 30s who fought for his life at McKay Hospital.

Armitt said the man was shot in the abdomen and is currently undergoing emergency surgery, but did not provide details of the shooter.

It added that the man was found in “extremely critical conditions” and that police were called “many kilometers from the scene”.

“He was fleeing the scene,” he said.

Police are urging the public to avoid the area as the case is still ongoing.

A state of emergency was declared at 11:30 am under the Public Safety Conservation Act, with boundaries spanning Sutherland Road, Normanby Road, Mount Compton Road, and Starvation Creek.

Ellie Kolls, a staff member at the Opal Ridge Motel, told The Guardian she was alerted to the incident at 11 a.m.

She said when she got a call from another local, she didn’t think they had found the shooter, so she thought the house should be locked.

We know the shooting is in a remote area and there are problems getting there.

According to the latest census data, Bogey has a population of 207.

Bowen and Collinsville locals described the incident as “unusual” and “strange” for the normally quiet area.

A Collinsville business owner said, “We haven’t had a lot of shootings in Bogey in the past…very rare.”

The Queensland Ambulance Service reportedly sent eight crew members to the scene.

In a now-deleted tweet, RACQ CQ rescue helicopters said they were “responding to reports that four people were injured in a shooting west of Collinsville.”

A RACQ spokesperson told ABC they knew the shooter was still on the run.

A RACQ spokesperson also told Yahoo News Australia that “the initial accounts are three in the paddock and one at home”.
