Infections in the United Kingdom have reached record levels, with over 17,000 new cases reported on Thursday.

Dr. Yvonne Doyle, Medical Director of UK Public Health Services, said: “The number of cases and hospitalizations is steadily and persistently increasing. The trend is clear and of great concern.

France’s new daily COVID-19 infection remains above the record 18,000 threshold on Thursday’s second day, and new measures are expected to curb the outbreak.

The average number of new infections reported in Belgium has increased for seven consecutive days, with Germany reporting the largest daily increase in new cases since Thursday April.

India remains the world leader in most new cases reported per day, but new infections are down 20% from their peak.

In the United States, which has the highest number of cases and deaths in the world, new infectious diseases have been increasing with the most hospitalized patients since early September.
