Optus suffered a massive data breach after being targeted by cyberattacks and losing the personal information of millions of customers. If you’re a customer of her Optus, should you worry?The answer is yes.
According to the company, the attack took place sometime on September 21, exposing details of more than 11 million customers.
Information collected in the attack includes names, dates of birth, phone numbers, and email addresses.
Other information associated with customer accounts, such as driver’s license numbers and passport numbers, are also believed to have been hacked.
Optus said it is working with the Australian Cyber Security Center and other financial institutions to minimize the damage.
Unfortunately, much of the stolen information can be used to steal customer identities, obtain loans, or create credit card or mobile phone accounts in your name.
Optus customers are advised to take the following precautions:
– Change the password of your Optus account and any other accounts that use your Optus email address as their username.
– Enable two-factor authentication for all your online accounts, including banking, social media, and other online accounts.
