Bamako: Military and local officials said on Tuesday that Islamic extremists had killed 25 people, including 13 soldiers, in multiple attacks in central Mali, burned military bases and ambushed troops.
The attack was the deadliest since the August 18 military coup that defeated President Ibrahim Bubakar Keita, and occurred days after the release of dozens of imprisoned militants by the interim government in a prisoner exchange. ..
Nine soldiers were killed in the first overnight attack on Sokoura’s base near the Burkina Faso border, according to a military statement.
It said that around 8:30 am on Tuesday, when their troops headed to the scene of the first attack, three other soldiers were ambushed on a bridge near the base.
