Thai police withdraw barriers as rebel protesters gather near Bangkok’s government building

Thousands of rebel protesters gathered in central Bangkok on Wednesday, October 14, marching through the government building, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-Ocha and the new constitution. At the rally, minor conflicts were reported between demonstrators and police, and between demonstrators and supporters in yellow monarchy, according to Thai investigators. The Bangkok Post reported that thousands of supporters of the monarchy had gathered in the area before the convoy of King Mahavajira Ronkon, who was scheduled to visit the royal palace for religious ceremonies, passed. Barricades were set up in and around the Government House, as you can see in this footage from Nakhon Sawan Road. Demonstrators gathered at the barricade and rocked a police bus that had been set up to block the route before police returned the barricade. Anti-government protests have been held in Thailand for the past three months, with thousands of people on the streets for rallies, making it the biggest challenge for Thai governing bodies in years.
