Football leagues across Europe have taken a break but football betting apps are up and running as other tournaments are still going on in different parts of the world. When it comes to football, they say there is action anytime and anywhere. When Europe breaks, the Americas and other regions are running, this means fans and those who rely on football betting apps will always have a game to enjoy. However, for some without European leagues and more particularly the English Premier League and La Liga, something is missing. This is the group that is eagerly waiting for the season to kick-off, and truly it will. The 2021/22 Premier League season will kick off on Saturday 14th August 2021. In this article, we will focus on the 2021/22 Premier League season; start by looking at its history of the league and then focus on the coming season.

How EPL is managed

English Premier League (EPL) is a private entity wholly owned by the twenty-member clubs at any given season of the league. This means that each of the twenty clubs is a shareholder in the company called Premier League. So, one may ask, then how are clubs that are relegated handled in this company since in a season that they will be away from the Premier League they will not be shareholders? An annual general meeting is held at the end of the league season and the clubs which have been relegated transfer their shares to those which have been promoted. In the season of 2020/2021, the teams that transferred their shareholding rights in the league are Fulham, West Brom, and Sheffield United. Norwich Union, Watford, and Brentford will be joining the group of 20 Clubs as new shareholders.

The league which operates based on promotion and relegation was started in 1992. Another question that is often asked is why the English Premier League is so young given others in Europe date back to the 19th Century. Scottish Championship is the oldest in Europe having been founded in 1890, Spanish La Liga, Italian Serie A, and Germany Bundesliga were founded in 1929 and 1963 respectively, but Serie A andBundesliga has a pre-history of 1898. With the Premier League starting in 1992; it joins France Ligue 1 (2002), Ukraine (2008), Serbia (2007), and Russia (1992) in the group of the youngest leagues in Europe. However, it is worth noting that FA Premier League was formed after the clubs that formed the Football League First Division broke away from the Football league which was started in 1888. They took advantage of the television right deals which were very lucrative. It seems that history was about to repeat itself when fifteen clubs wanted to break away from the UEFA.

Place of the EPL in Europe football

Premier league ranks highly in European football based on the performances of clubs in the continental championship. Manchester City emerged the winner of the UEFA champion’s league where Chelsea another FA Premier League club was the runners-up. Manchester United was the runners-up in European Cup.

Winners

Ever since the league was started a total of 49 clubs have participated with Manchester United topping the title’s race with thirteen wins, followed by Manchester City and Chelsea which have five titles each. Arsenal has won the league three times while Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City, and Liverpool have one title each.
