This is Australia’s southernmost EV charger

Buying an electric car will make you want to travel everywhere you normally go, including strange and wonderful places like Southport, Tasmania. A coffee shop called ‘Rocket at the End of Road’ has just installed an EV charger and invites electric vehicle owners.

The location is 8856 Huon Hwy, Southport TAS 7109, Australia and there is already an entry on the EV Charger site. Plugshare.comIt is located 97 km from Hobart (1 hour 24 minutes drive) and 300 km from Launceston (3 hours 48 minutes). Southport is a lovely provincial town with beach access just a short walk from the cafes. Coffee is just $3.50 for a cappuccino or flat white. If you have kids, they have ice cream and cookies.

The AC charger has a type 2 connector and a BYO charging cable is required if you are planning a visit.

It’s great to see Australian companies adding charging options to their businesses, encouraging more and more EV owners to visit and spend money. With so many wineries, hotels and other businesses doing this, it’s great to see this list grow.

Check the state of the company facebook page Ask them questions before heading out on an expedition.

If you’re looking for fast charging, the closest is the Geeveston Visitor Center, about 40km from here, with a 50kW Chargefox charger, installed as part of the Electric Highway Tasmania programme.
