Downing Center District Court Magistrate Margaret Quinn accepted submissions from Moran’s barrister on Thursday, but found no new evidence linking Moran to the 2005 murder of Simone Straubel.

And the King has submitted new witness statements obtained from the German people, showing that he lied about the status of their relationship, but that evidence has not yet been brought to court.

The magistrate said evidence showed the couple had had a fight and was probably on several drugs around the time of the murder charges.

“[But]there doesn’t seem to be direct or indirect evidence linking him to the crime in this case,” Quinn said.

“This is not the most powerful situation I have seen.”

His wife provided a bond of $200,000 and an additional $250,000 if he did not appear in court in Lismore if required.

Moran was charged with murdering his then-partner between 11:00 p.m. on February 11, 2005 and 3:30 p.m. rice field.

Police claim Moran smothered or suffocated his girlfriend in Lismore’s camper van and disposed of her body nearby.

Moran reported that a school teacher went missing several days after being 100 meters away from the camper.

Her body was so decomposed that the coroner was unable to determine the cause of death, but it is believed to be asphyxiation.

A magistrate disagreed with the King’s allegations that Moran was not cooperating with police, and admitted to refusing to appear at an inquest in 2007.

But he has turned over a large number of DNA samples to the police, one of which is missing, and recently offered to be extradited, she said.

Police confirmed last week that they were in contact with German authorities about two arrest warrants for suspects who were “of high importance from the beginning”.

Moran’s sister Catrin Sackfuel and friend Jens Martin were also traveling with them.
