Tourists flee Cancun before arrival in Hurricane Delta

Mexico followed shortly after a tropical cyclone gamma that killed at least six people in heavy weekend rains in preparation for the effects of the Hurricane Delta on October 6. According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), the Hurricane Delta was approaching the Yucatan Peninsula as a Category 4 storm. The NHC predicted a “very dangerous” storm surge starting in the evening of October 6th. The storm was predicted to intensify rapidly over the course of 24 hours, hitting southeastern Mexico later in the week by “directly targeting” Cancun. Quintana Roo Governor Carlos Joaquin said on Twitter that some popular tourist destinations had been evacuated before the storm. This footage was shot at Cancun International Airport when a traveler was about to go home before the storm struck on Tuesday.
