Wauwatosa police deploy pepperballs during protest after bottles are thrown at officers

From October 9th, the Wauwatosa police station has released a video showing protesters throwing bottles at the police and police officers deploying pepperballs to respond. The protests were triggered by the district attorney’s decision not to prosecute police officers involved in the deadly shootings of teenagers. Reportedly, 17-year-old Alvin Cole was shot dead by police after making a pistol while fleeing police after a quarrel at the mall. This footage, released by the Wauwatosa Police Station, shows police confronting 100 demonstrators gathered at an intersection after the city-wide curfew came into effect at 7:00 pm. According to police, the footage captures a scene one hour after police warning protesters to disband. In the footage, a policeman says he has a gun in his right pocket before the bottle is thrown by the police, and the policeman blows back the pepperball. The footage also shows that police refused to disband and stated that they were arresting protesters who physically resisted the arrest. Protesters “had eyewash, spray bottles, and light liquids,” police said. On Sunday, media reported that at least eight people had been arrested during the protests on Saturday night.Credit: Wauwatosa Police Station via Storyful
