Auger-Aliassime, the Wolf of the Florence final
Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime will face USA’s JJ Wolff in the final of the ATP Tour in Florence, Italy.
Auger-Aliassime defeated home favorite and third seed Lorenzo Musetti 6-2, 6-3 in Saturday’s indoor hard-court tournament.
“A very good start, at a very high level,” said Auger-Aliassime. “He was playing great tennis and he thought, ‘I’m going to have to play my best tennis to win.'”
“That’s what I did tonight. I played very perfect tennis.”
Earlier, Wolf advanced to his first ATP final by defeating Swedish qualifier Mikael Imer 6-4, 6-4.
“I’ve never been to a final before. I’ll keep working on what I’ve been working on and not worry about the results,” Wolff said.
For the first time since 1994, Florence will host a Tour-level event.
