Australia weather forecast; ‘rain and plenty’ coming as multiple lows pass through country
Australia is gearing up for ‘rain and heavy rain’ as multiple weather systems pass through the country over the next seven days.
Low pressure systems and troughs are now being built in central Australia, drawing in moisture.
Heavy rains will begin tomorrow in the eastern states.
“The map below shows the schedule for Australia this week, with rain in many states and territories,” Weatherzone said.
“This week’s rain will be widespread, with many days of heavy thunderstorm activity.
“Thunderstorms are a particular danger in Queensland and New South Wales from Wednesday to Friday, with severe storms likely to occur daily in both states.”
Sean Kearns of NSW SES urged people to stay up to date on the evolving warnings over the next 24 to 28 hours.
About 3,000 people around Moama have now been ordered to evacuate. A total of 300 people have already been displaced in Moama.
People are being asked to prepare their homes for floods.
West NSW communities such as Forbes, Warren, Wee Waa, Deniliquin, Bourke and Tilpa are of particular interest.
SES has carried out 6 flood rescues in the last 24 hours, but people have been reminded again not to drive through flood waters.
Weather Service’s Jane Golding talks about what New South Wales can expect in the coming days.
Heavy rains leading to flash floods, thunderstorms and hail are all expected later this week, especially west of the Great Divide.
“There is now a major flood warning in place for the Macquarie River. Warren is still experiencing major flooding as it has been for several weeks,” Golding said.
“Major flooding is expected on the Bogan River, especially at three locations along the Bogan River.
ADF has been called to help flood victims in New South Wales, Emergency Services Minister Steph Cook said.
A total of 180 staff will be deployed to communities at risk, particularly in the western regions of New South Wales.
Dean Narramore, senior meteorologist at the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BoM), has cast a cloud over the forecast and warned that a different system could begin to develop from Sunday.
“Unfortunately, over the next week, southern Queensland hinterland, New South Wales hinterland, northern Victoria and South Australian hinterland all saw widespread fall of 50-100mm,” Naramore said. said.
“This is not good news for many flood-affected areas.”
Narramore said Thursday through Saturday are “high impact days” for Victoria.
Warnings are being issued as the state’s flood crisis continues.
There are now 60 warnings issued statewide, 34,000 homes at risk, and a series of evacuation orders issued.
Emergency Management Victoria Commissioner Andrew Crisp said authorities were working closely with the BoM to protect the community.
“We are dealing with a lot of things right now.
“In Victoria we will see another weather system move into the state from tomorrow…we plan whatever they (BoM) are projecting.”
