Cancer vaccine ‘may be available by 2030’

The team behind the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid jab predicts cancer vaccines could be administered to patients in the next decade.

Professors Ugur Sahin and Ozlem Tureci say the development and success of a coronavirus vaccine has boosted research against cancer. Sun report.

Professor Tulechi told the BBC: I learned how the immune system reacts.

“This will definitely accelerate our cancer vaccines.

“As scientists, we always hesitate to say we have a cure for cancer.

“We have many breakthroughs and will continue to work on them.”

She said the development has also helped regulators deal with vaccines.

Asked when the cancer jab would be available, Professor Sahin said it could be “before 2030.”

The scientist couple co-founded BioNTech in Mainz, Germany in 2008, pioneering personalized cancer immunotherapy.

The couple said their use of mRNA technology proved valuable in the pandemic and that experience helped spur their work.
