After this truly baffling decision, Will Pucosvki should have walked straight off the ground and bought a lottery ticket.

But early in the inning, Pucovski should have slowly walked off the field thanks to a brilliant delivery from WA quick Jhye Richardson.

With just three overs into the innings, Richardson threw the third ball of two overs and, thanks to a late swing, the ball hit the pads, completely fooling Pukowski.

When Richardson turned around to finalize his appeal to the referee, the entire slip cordon went up in unison as Richardson raised his arms in the air and shouted with joy.

For some reason, the referee’s index finger remained attached to his waist.

“Yeah, it hit him low. It was close, but the referee said no. I say low.”

Another player said, “Maybe the referee thinks he was hit outside the stump.”

However, when the replay aired, the commentary box was surprised that Pukowski was not given the marching order.

One commentator said, “I don’t know why it wasn’t dealt. It could have missed the off and leg, but I don’t think it was missing the middle.”

Cricket fans watching couldn’t believe that the former Australian opener wasn’t sent packed with a ball that looked like it was about to uproot a stump in the middle.

Broadcaster Darren Parkin wrote, “At least two of the three stumps are missing.”

Channel 7’s John Hunt wrote:

Pukowski was eventually packed after being caught bowling by Lance Morris in the 37th from 117 deliveries.

He formed a 104-run partnership with fellow opener Marcus Harris, who remains unbeaten with 67.

Cameron Bancroft leads the way to WA with 100, ahead of Darcy Short (87), Sam Whiteman (82) and Hilton Cartwright (70).
