German Cup champions Leipzig beat Hamburg
Yussuf Poulsen scored twice in the first half as leaders RB Leipzig beat SV Hamburg 4-0 to advance to the third round of the German Cup.
Second division Hamburg got off to a good start with Milo Muhaim hitting the crossbar, but the home side scored very similar goals in the next three minutes.
In the 33rd minute, Mohammed Simakan’s low cross was delivered by Poulsen from the right. Dane came a little closer to the left post in the 36th minute, converting Andre Silva’s cross again from the right.
Simakan’s loop header in the 69th minute and Benjamin Henrichs’ counter-attack in the 82nd minute gave Leipzig victory.
It was another setback for last season’s semi-finalists Hamburg, who lost 3-0 in the league to cross-town rivals St. Pauli last weekend.
Eintracht Frankfurt advanced to the last 16 with a 2-0 victory over fifth-placed Stuttgarter Kickers. Mainz beat 4th Division VfB Lübeck 3–0. Second division Nuremberg beat third division Waldhof Mannheim 1-0.
The next four kick-offs on Tuesday, including Hoffenheim vs. Schalke. The remaining eight matches on Wednesday include Augsburg-Bayern Munich and Hannover-Borussia Dortmund.
