Hyman boosts refereeing success – Australian Jewish News
A former AJAX Junior Footy Club player, Campbell Hyman is developing his refereeing talents.
The 22-year-old was named referee of the year at the 2022 Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) awards night late last month.
This award recognizes referees who consistently demonstrate high levels of refereeing competence, dedication, a good sense of the game and effective relationships with their clubs.
Judged by the VAFA Referee Coaching Group.
After seven seasons with AJAX Juniors, Hyman decided to switch to refereeing six years ago, refereeing VAFA games on Saturdays and South Metro Junior Football League games on Sundays.
He has officiated 127 VAFA games to date.
AJAX Footy Club secretary Peter Kagan told AJN that Hyman is a “very consistent and fair referee and has a good relationship with the players.”
“Campbell has a desire to be a top-level referee and is very capable.
“The next step for him will be the Victorian Football League.”
Also at the 2022 VAFA Awards, AJAX player Julie Caplan performed well in Women’s Division 2, Best & Fairest, placing 5th. Meanwhile, AJAX Men’s Captain Nick Lewis placed him ninth in the Men’s Premier B Grade Best & Fairest.
