Kayaker rides swollen river after Geelong is battered by heavy rain

On Sunday 16th October kayakers tackled the high waters of Buckley Falls on the Barwon River in Geelong, Victoria. The previous day heavy rains flooded the area. Local media reported that heavy rains since Wednesday had raised river levels and caused flooding in the area. In response, some roads and facilities were closed by authorities. The city of Greater Geelong warned residents on Sunday that they would see “massive debris, potholes and other damage” as the floodwaters receded. About 7,000 sandbags were distributed before rain was expected later in the week. Footage by Amanda Stewart shows people kayaking in fast-moving water. Stewart said the video was shot at Buckley Falls in Geelong on Sunday. Buckley Falls is a rock waterfall on the Barwon River. Local media reported that water levels began to fall on Sunday.
