NBN Extends Fiber to Over 300,000 Homes – Is Your Suburb on the List?



NBN Co today announced the suburbs and towns around Australia where the more than 300,000 homes and businesses currently served by Fiber-to-the-node (FTTN) are eligible for Fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) upgrades. .

This expansion, which will increase our fiber footprint, will allow more than 2 million FTTN facilities to upgrade to FTTP by the end of the year.

NBN announced this fiber expansion in September 2020, but this latest batch of expansion areas continues the project to help customers achieve even faster internet speeds at home.

NBN Co. Chief Operating Officer Kathrine Dyer said:

“In addition to the inherent speed benefits offered by Fiber to the Premises, these full fiber connections significantly reduce the number of copper connections in the network.

“Optical fiber is inherently capable of providing faster upload and download speeds, is generally more reliable than copper connections, and reduces maintenance and operating costs.”

To receive a full fiber upgrade, eligible households must order one of NBN’s three highest speed residential tiers through a participating retailer. Speeds up to 1Gbps.

As this fiber expansion continues, the NBN is on track, and by the end of 2023, up to 8 million facilities nationwide will have access to speeds up to 1Gbps.

Customers can check if their home or business is eligible to upgrade from FTTN to FTTP by registering for the update at nbn.com.au/fttpupgrade.
