Ookla Releases Internet Performance Report – Who Are the Fastest Mobile and Landline Operators?

Ookla, the company behind the Speedtest app, has released an internet performance report looking at mobile and fixed network speeds in Australia. How did the telecom company perform?

Ookla’s Speedtest rankings are based on median download speeds and are the best indication of what speeds users are likely to experience.

These speed tests were conducted on both mobile and fixed networks.

We found Telstra to offer the fastest median download speeds on mobile, while we found Aussie Broadband to offer the fastest median fixed broadband speeds.

Ookla reports a median download speed of 95.83Mbps, with Telstra taking the lead.

Optus followed with 86.92Mbps, followed by Vodafone with 66.40Mbps.

However, Optus had the lowest multi-server latency of 35 ms. That’s 37 ms ahead of Telstra and Vodafone.

In terms of performance consistency across carriers, Telstra outperforms Optus (87.6%) and Vodafone (85.5%) by 88.4%.

On fixed broadband, Aussie Broadband posted a median download speed of 67.4Mbps, well ahead of Optus’s 52.93Mbps, Telstra (51.78Mbps), TPG (49.98Mbps) and iiNet (49.15Mbps).

Broadband in Australia also has the most consistent download speeds, taking the lead at 85.7%.

They were followed by Optus (81.8%), Telstra (79.6%), TPG (76.8%) and iiNet (75.2%).

For fixed broadband latency, Australian broadband leads with 13ms, followed by TPG (14ms), iiNet (15ms), Telstra (16ms) and Optus (17ms).
