Pilot in critical condition with severe burns
The pilot, believed to be in his 40s, suffered severe burns and multiple broken bones after the plane he was flying in crashed in Ruskintyre, near the Hunter Valley.
Paramedics from the New South Wales Ambulance arrived shortly after 2pm along with a specialized medical team from Westpac Rescue Helicopters.
New South Wales ambulance inspector Jake Broughton Rouse said the patient had already disembarked from the aircraft when paramedics arrived.
“The plane burst into flames on impact, with severe burns to 80% of his body and many other serious injuries,” he said.
“He was treated by the New South Wales Paramedics and Westpac Rescue Helicopter medical team. The patient was placed in an induced coma and airlifted to hospital by helicopter.
“This has been a very complex and daunting scene for paramedics. We have effectively treated critically ill patients.”
The man was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in critical condition.
