The state government will pay for the construction costs including all materials, factories and labor.

Public Works Minister PN Ryan yesterday signed a £75,000 contract for the construction of the second phase of the building, mainly the roof.

The stage, due to be completed by the end of 1964, is estimated to cost £1.8 million.

The contract was awarded to MR Hornibrook (NSW) Pty. Ltd.

I won the bid through negotiation instead of bidding.

The firm was selected on the recommendation of London consulting engineers Ove Arup and Partners and with the consent of architect Joern Utzon and the Opera House Executive Committee.
