Vinomofo suffers massive data breach
Online wine cellar Vinomofo has revealed a major data breach in which an intruder accessed personal customer information such as names, dates of birth, addresses and contact information.
In a statement posted online, Vinomofo said the intruder accessed a database on a test platform that was not linked to a primary website. Nonetheless, it contained actual customer information.

“Vinomofo does not hold any personal or financial data such as passports, driver’s licenses, credit card or bank details,” it said in an online statement. “The investigation did not confirm access to passwords, identification or financial information, but the database contains other information about customers and members.”
Names, addresses, emails, genders, phone numbers and dates of birth may have been accessed.
Vinomofo’s online statement did not say when it discovered the breach, which it said occurred “recently”, and for “privacy” and fraud prevention reasons, it declined to disclose the total number of people who participated in the hack. I refuse.
The Vinomofo hack disclosure is the latest in a string of online data breaches, most notably Telecom giant Optushas increased public concern about corporate cybersecurity and data collection practices.
Vinomofo said it kept data about customers who purchased from its online store in accordance with privacy, allowed customers to request deletion of the data and notified the authorities. We are investigating whether customer data has been published online.
