WBBL: Perth Scorchers beat Hobart Hurricanes by 8 wickets to keep winning streak
The Perth Scorchers are far from resting on their laurels after winning their first WBBL title.
A day after limiting the Sydney Thunder to 8-88, the Perth bowlers dominated the Hobart Hurricanes again at Blacktown International Sportspark.
Trump leg spinner Alana King (3-15) set the standard from the first over, sending former scorcher and dangerous opener Elise Villani back to the shed for a duck.
The King attacked again, beating out South Africa international Mignon du Prez by just 11 to put the Hurricanes in early trouble at 4-52.
Another former WA player, Heather Graham, set out to rescue the inning, targeting straight boundaries.
She watched for half a century before mistaking a delivery from scorcher New Zealand superstar Sophie Devine (1-30), ending with an amusing knock of 28 to 35 balls.
The Hurricanes never regained their footing in the match as Marisanne Cup (2-13) and Tanille Pechel (3-13) took advantage of tricky wickets.
In the second half boundary, the Hurricanes broke 100 to end the 9-109 inning.
Young and quick Molly Strano sent a shudder into the Scorcher lineup, tearing Devine by four.
However, the Scorchers were never in jeopardy as Beth Mooney (38 not out) and Chloe Piparro (31) closed the gap and penalized a loose ball for a 54-run partnership.
Piparro’s fall opened the door to the Hurricanes, but it was quickly kicked shut by a ferocious knock of 16 to 32 from Muddy Green, leading Perth to an eight-wicket win with almost five overs left.
The Scorcher’s next game is against the Melbourne Stars at WACA on Thursday.
